AVS / CVV2
Some of the basic measures that most payment processing systems incorporate to prevent online credit card fraud are: 1. Address verification : Most online merchants require the buyer to fill a form with address and contact details before proceeding to checkout. Each credit is usually associated with a physical address and telephone number which are usually verified by the issuing bank or financial institution. A secure payment gateway will have an address verification system (AVS), which will match the information from the two sources, and flag it for fraud if the two differ significantly.
2. CVV2 is a three digit number located at the back of a credit card ( four digit number in case of American Express card) . In addition to credit card details, the CVV2 also has to be entered at most secure payment gateways.
